Obituary: Donna Penland Richardson

Donna Penland Richardson of Harriman went to be with the Lord suddenly on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at the Roane County Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 5, 1955, in Oak Ridge to Jackie and Edwin Penland. Donna was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School and Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in business administration and office management. She was a professional certified secretary and was employed with Oak Ridge National Laboratory until taking a medical retirement due to MS. Donna loved and participated in western square dancing, reading, working puzzles, computer games, playing cards, and was an avid University of North Carolina Tar Heel sports follower.

Donna was preceded in death by her father and stepmother as well as her grandparents. She is survived by her loving husband John O. Richardson, her mother Jackie Penland, sister Anne P. Bissett, nephew Lee P. Bissett and his wife Karli Boothe, stepsons and their families: Barry Richardson and his wife Chris and their children Adam and Elizabeth, and Brad Richardson and his wife Adeline, aunts Kate Amos, Bessie Hudson, Mabel Penland, Elaine Griffies, uncle Carl Penland, cousins Michael Penland and Sharon Rose.

A memorial/birthday celebration was held Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 1 p.m. at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Crystal Smith officiating. The family received friends prior to the service from 12 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorial gifts be made to the Animal Shelter of Oak Ridge or Harriman.
