Eddy G. Palmer, age 73, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, following an automobile accident.
Mr. Palmer was born on Feb. 17, 1940, in Adamsville, Tenn. He lived in and grew up in Oliver Springs. Following his high school graduation, he moved to Dayton, Ohio. While in Dayton, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country. Following his military discharge, he returned back to Dayton and began his profession as a builder and contractor.
In 1977, he and his family moved back home to Oliver Springs. He and his business partner, Jerry Johnson, founded P & J Builder, a successful home building business. He continued operating the business until his retirement in 2003.
He loved his family and friends and he enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. Additionally, he loved animals and attending local flea markets.
Mr. Palmer was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Palmer and Theo Plunk Palmer Cross.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Ledford Palmer of Oliver Springs; by daughters, Wendy Vinson and husband Brian, of Oak Ridge, and Tracy Stanton of Oak Ridge; by grandchildren, Craig Palmer and wife Lauren of San Diego, Calif., Logan Guinn of Walland, Tenn., and Kaylee, Nicholas and Michael Stanton, all of Oak Ridge.
He is also survived by a brother, Freddy Palmer and wife Patricia of Merritt Island, Fla.;Â by a sister, Linda Sweet and husband Jim, of Powell, Tenn.; and by several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 16, between 5 and 7 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. Services will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Steve McDonald officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter and/or Habitat for Humanity.
