An unknown driver in an unknown vehicle hit two parked cars on Outer Drive early Saturday morning, sideswiped a tree, and struck a house before fleeing, authorities said.

The crash at about 1:40 a.m. Saturday just east of Florida Avenue damaged the foundation of a home at 97 Outer Drive, Oak Ridge Police Department Officer Daniel Freytag said in a report.

Damage to the two parked cars, both owned by Gary Groover, an Outer Drive resident, was estimated at more than $400 each. One car is a 1995 Toyota Avalon four-door sedan, and the other is a 2002 Ford Mustang convertible.

Damage to the home, owned by Victor Mirodipini, was also estimated at more than $400.

According to a witness and evidence at the scene, the unknown vehicle was traveling east on Outer Drive about 200 feet east of Florida Avenue when it left the roadway and struck the two parked cars, which were both parked in on-street parking on the south side of the road, Freytag said. The vehicle than crossed the sidewalk on the south side of the road and sideswiped a tree with the passenger side of the vehicle. It then continued southeast through underbrush and into the yard at 97 Outer Drive before striking the house. The collision busted out a section of the foundation, Freytag said.

The unknown vehicle then fled, a witness said.

The crash report said the vehicle appeared to be a dark-colored sport utility vehicle or pickup. No debris from the vehicle was found at the scene, suggesting it was an older model auto with little or no plastic in the body, Freytag said. The vehicle left the scene and was not found, he said.
