Fred Melvin Collins Jr.

Fred Melvin Collins Jr., age 48, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013.

Mr. Collins was born March 19, 1965, in Harriman. He was a lifelong resident of this area.

Fred worked as a truck driver in the Collins family business. He graduated from the Oliver Springs High School in 1983. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and most importantly, spending time with his family.

Mr. Collins is preceded in death by his mother, Brenda Sue Collins.

He is survived by his father, Fred M. Collins Sr. of Oliver Springs; by his companion, Edna Turpin of Oliver Springs; by children, Brenda Griffith and husband Carl of Tazewell, Tenn., Freddie Ray Collins of Oliver Springs, Danielle Collins of Oliver Springs, and Zachary Collins of New York; by step-children, Kayla Sparks and husband Travis of Oakdale, Kimberly Turpin, Kristy Turpin, Cody Turpin, and Christopher Turpin, all of Harriman; and by brothers, Michael Collins and wife Rhonda of Oliver Springs, and Robert Collins and wife Leanne of Oliver Springs.

Fred is also survived by five grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 19, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Charles Webb officiating.

Burial and graveside services will be held Friday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Foster Cemetery in Oliver Springs. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. An online guestbook is available at www.sharpfh.com.
