The University of Tennessee Arboretum Society will sponsor an azalea workshop at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the UT Arboretum at 901 S. Illinois Ave. in Oak Ridge. Follow the signs in the parking lot to the event site.
“Longtime Oak Ridge resident Huey Sides, a true azalea aficionado, will share his lessons learned regarding the planting, care, and propagation of azaleas,” a press release said. “Huey’s knowledge on this topic has been mostly self-taught and demonstrated with over 40 years of both successes and failures in his New York Avenue backyard.”
The release said Huey and his wife Barbara open their yard to the public every spring. A collection of more than 20 of the Sides’ azaleas is growing in the hillside area south of the Visitors’ Center at the Arboretum.
Sides also sends selected varieties of his azaleas and other plants from his garden to the Society’s annual plant sales. The UT Arboretum Society will host its 46th Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the UT Arboretum.

This is a don’t miss event for those who use or would like to use azaleas in the home or business landscape. Huey knows his stuff and has been very generous to the arboretum and our community. 7 PM this Tuesday at the arboretum.
As a side note, there will also be a “members only” plant sale this Friday from 5 – 7 PM at the arboretum. You can join or renew your membership at the sale.
