A licensed professional counselor will discuss evolution during “Lunch with the League” on Tuesday.
Friederica “Freddie” Nechtow will be the guest speaker, and her presentation will focus on “understanding evolution and the evidence for it rather than a debate of the pros and cons,” a press release said. Her presentation starts at noon Tuesday in the Social Hall of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church.
“The concept of evolution and the scientific evidence which supports it will be examined, drawing on fields from biology and biochemistry to paleontology and plate tectonics,” the press release said. “While some technical material will be described, the main focus will be on presenting general concepts to a non-scientific audience.”
Nechtow received an M.D. from Dalhousie University. She was a family practitioner in Canada before moving to the United States, and she worked in the mental health field for 15 years. She maintains an interest in general science, the release said.
“Lunch with the League” is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge, and it is open to the public. There is no cost to attend, and reservations are not needed. Box lunches will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis for $7, or you may bring your own. Coffee and tea are provided.
