Nancy Baird Showalter Carrol, 89, of Oak Ridge, passed away Friday, March 8, at National Health Care of Oak Ridge.
Nancy was born Jan. 30, 1925 in LaFollette, Tenn., to the late Andrew and Alice McCullah Baird.
She was a member of Heritage Fellowship Church of God. Nancy was a homemaker and very loving, nurturing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a competitive speed walker and was the Tennessee Senior State Champion in 1986, and also a member of a hiking club from 1984 to 2004. She loved sewing, gardening, and her animals.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Michael C. Showalter Sr. in June 1978 and Elliott D. Carroll in August 1994, and 12 siblings.
She is survived by her daughter Alice White and her husband Terry of Knoxville; son Michael C. Showalter and his wife Gina of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Eurichea Showalter, Mikey Showalter, Christy M. Lewis, Jerry M. Lewis, and Jonathan T. Lewis; great-grandchildren, Roma Ball, and Victor and Mario Showalter; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 12, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Wednesday March 13, at 1 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Pastor Paul Metler officiating.
