A Harriman man was taken to the hospital with cuts on his face and forehead after a head-on collision between two vehicles on Edgemoor Road Saturday morning.
Sergio Apolonio Cruz, 25, was taken by ambulance to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, an Oak Ridge Police Department crash report said.
The other driver, Mark Allen Mays, 33, of Knoxville, was not injured, the report said.
The report said Cruz was westbound on Edgemoor Road near Solway Park in a 2001 Kia Optima sedan at about 5:48 a.m. Saturday when he allegedly drifted into the oncoming lane, causing the head-on collision with an eastbound 2003 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Mays.
ORPD Officer Christopher Wallace said both vehicles had heavy damage—more than $400 each—and they were blocking both lanes of traffic. An off-duty UT Lifestar nurse was helping Cruz when Oak Ridge police arrived.
Wallace said Cruz did not have a valid driver’s license, and he told police he had consumed several alcoholic beverages.
Cruz was cited for driving without a license, not having proof of insurance, and failing to stay in his lane, the crash report said.
