Betty Jean Phillips, age 64, a resident of Clinton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 25, at her home, while surrounded by her family.
Betty was born Dec. 29, 1948, in the New River Community of Anderson County. She was a lifelong resident of this area.
She was a faithful Christian and a member of the Rock Hill Baptist Church. Betty Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to all. She enjoyed, vegetable gardening and canning, flower gardening, reading, watching television, and watching University of Tennessee football.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Endmon Bunch and Louellen Daugherty Bunch, and by her grandmother, Mary Daugherty.
Betty is survived by her husband of 47 years, Murl Phillips; by a daughter, Carla Phillips and husband Junior; by a son, Carlie Phillips and wife Polly, all of Clinton; and by grandchildren, PFC Lucas Phillips, Elizabeth Phillips, Emily Phillips, Faith Phillips, Miranda Phillips, and Jacob Phillips.
She is also survived by brothers, Henry Bunch and wife Virginia of Wartburg, and Rodney Bunch and wife Diana of Danville, Ky.; by sisters, Hope Leab of Caryville, Thelma Logsdon and husband Fred of Lake City; by a special sister, Peggy Cornett and husband Dennis of Clinton; and by a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and a world of friends.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Feb. 27, between 6 and 9 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home.
The body will lie in state at the Rock Hill Baptist Church on Thursday, Feb. 28, between 12 and 1 p.m. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the church, with Rev. Luke Ward, Rev. Houston Carroll, Rev. Lee Phillips, and Rev. Leonard West officiating. Burial will follow at the Rock Hill Cemetery.
