U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, an East Tennessee Republican, has been appointed to the House Appropriations Committee.
Fleischmann, re-elected to a second term on Nov. 6, is one of six new members appointed to the powerful committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. The appointments were approved by the House Republican Steering Committee on Thursday.
Fleischmann’s district includes Oak Ridge. In a press release, he said the committee does critical work to ensure that tax revenues from hardworking Americans are spent wisely.
“With our national debt growing larger and larger, it is now more important than ever that we exercise strong fiscal discipline and work to cut unnecessary spending,” Fleischmann said. “In the last two years, Chairman (Hal) Rogers has done incredible work at reducing spending, and I look forward to continuing the task of getting our nation’s discretionary spending back on track, and rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars.â€
The other new committee members are Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler of Washington, Rep. Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska, Rep. David Joyce of Ohio, Rep. Thomas Rooney of Florida, and Rep. David Valadao of California.
