Recie Cartwright Barker

Recie Cartwright Barker, age 92, of Oak Ridge, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, at NHC Healthcare of Oak Ridge.

Recie was born May 31, 1920, in Madisonville, Ky., to the late Thomas and Effie Cartwright.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday School for many years. She loved children, and in addition to raising her own, she had been a foster mother to seven children. She loved spending time with her family and was a very proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Preceded in death by her husband Mitt Barker and son Arnold Barker, she is survived by her sister Exie Downey; daughters Linda Robinson and Mattie Carpenter; son Mark Barker; grandchildren Melissa Snyder, Cassie Landrum, and Kristi Tudor; and great-grandchildren Emma Jane, Logan, Lane, Eli, Nia, Luke, Colby, Reece, Haleigh, and Mitt.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Joshua Landrum officiating. Interment will follow the service at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
