Elizabeth Wilson Diggs, age 75, a resident of the Marlow Community in Anderson County, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, Sept. 2, at her home.
Mrs. Diggs was born April 27, 1937, in Anderson County. She was a lifelong resident of this area.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a faithful member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church, where she served as Acteen leader for many years. She enjoyed singing gospel songs and she traveled with a trio in the early ’70s, both locally and in surrounding states.
In the early years, she was employed at Roane Hosiery in Harriman. She later owned and operated Liz’s Beauty Shop. She was last employed at Modine Manufacturing in Clinton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin M. Diggs Jr.; by her parents, William and Inez Long Wilson; by three sisters, Ethel Reynolds, Alice Gann, and Maudie Reese; and by a special aunt, Alice Trentham.
Mrs. Diggs is survived by daughters, Danita Stanfield and husband Jerry Wayne of Nathalie, Va., and Evangeline Collett and husband Glenn of Clinton; by grandchildren, Celina Tinker and husband Paul, and Jacob T. Collett and Rachel Collett; and by great-grandchildren, Savannah Diggs, Addison Tinker, and Ethan Tinker, all of Clinton.
She is also survived by a brother, Gene Wilson and wife Ella of Columbus, Ohio; by sisters, Ruby Bass of Oliver Springs, and Violet Smith and husband George of Chattanooga; and by several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many special friends.
The family received friends Wednesday, Sept. 5, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral followed in the funeral home chapel at 8 p.m. with Pastors Matt Reed, Jerry Stanfield, and Donald Moore officiating.
Burial and graveside services will be held Thursday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
