Wendy Shoemaker Baskin, 44, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29, at the Methodist Medical Center, after a lifetime struggle with diabetes-related illnesses, with her family by her side.
She was born Aug. 10, 1968, in Harriman, and is the daughter of Shelby and Wendell Shoemaker.
She graduated from Farragut High School in 1986.
Wendy moved to Oak Ridge in 2001. She was a certified nursing assistant and worked at nursing homes in Oak Ridge.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Paul and Margie Martin of Lake City, Marley Shoemaker, Ruby Shoemaker Walker and Harold Walker of Knoxville; and her aunt, Janice Martin of Lake City.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jaima and Kara Baskin of Oak Ridge; mother, Shelby Shoemaker of Oak Ridge; father, Wendell Shoemaker of Knoxville; sister and brother-in-law, Sayona and Gary Groover of Oak Ridge; aunts and uncles, Brenda and Sam Bice of Lake City and Shelia and Wallace Brogan of Knoxville; cousins, Chris Brogan, Tammy Marlow, and Kristi Phillips; and a very special person in her life, Keith Kimberly.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 4 from 6–8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary.
The family would like to thank the staff of Methodist Medical Center’s Coronary Care Unit, Dr. Lynch and Dr. Lovelace for their dedicated care, and Johnny Bullock, patient relations director, for his compassion, love, and support of the family during this most difficult time.
