Six bids were opened Tuesday for a project to build a new library in Briceville, and the low bid was $374,933, Anderson County Interim Mayor Myron Iwanski said.
The low bid was from Southeast Construction of Franklin, Tenn., Iwanski said. The next lowest bid was $380,000 by Evans and Alley from Anderson County.
Iwanski said the bids were within the budgeted amount for the project. The bids are now being reviewed by the library architect and the county’s purchasing office.
Iwanski said the project is being funded by a $100,000 state grant, an ongoing fundraising drive that has raised almost $100,000 in private contributions, and $100,000 from the county, money that has been approved and reserved for this project.
The remaining building costs will be covered by a low-interest loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Iwanski said.
“The Briceville Library Foundation, headed by Marshall Hackworth, will continue to raise private funds to help furnish the library,” Iwanski said.
He said construction of the library is expected to start later this year.
“This library project will be a much-needed asset to the Briceville community,” Iwanski said.
He said it will tie in nicely with a Briceville sidewalk project that has been funded through a Department of Transportation grant. That project is in its last review stages and will also be completed later this year, Iwanski said.
