A 68-year-old motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to the University of Tennessee Medical Center after a Saturday morning collision with a car at a busy intersection in south Oak Ridge.

An Oak Ridge Police Department accident report said Roy Clifton Hall Jr., 68, of Heiskell, was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle north on South Illinois Avenue when he hit a a Toyota minivan driven by Betty Jean Sonnenfeldt, 55, of Knoxville. The report said Sonnenfeldt was trying to turn onto Lafayette Avenue, but she did not yield to Hall.

Hall, who was wearing a helmet, suffered “incapacitating” injuries in the collision, the report said. He has been discharged from the hospital, a spokeswoman said Monday afternoon.

Sonnenfeldt told Oak Ridge police she was first in the left-hand turn lane and had a solid green light, but two witnesses said the northbound and southbound lanes had a green light, not a turn signal, the accident report said.

The report said Sonnenfeldt was cited for failing to yield on a left-hand turn.

I am sick and tired of people that don’t pay attention while driving. Turning left in front of a motorcycle is the most common cause of accidents.
