Clarence Gene “CG” Mowell, age 92, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.

He was born June 22, 1920, on Bays Mountain in Hawkins County, the son of Noah and Neaner Carr Mowell. He was a resident of Mt. Carmel and had been a resident of Oak Ridge for 57 years.

Mr. Mowell worked as a tool clerk in the Stores Department of K-25 from 1945 to 1983.

In Oak Ridge, he was a member of Robertsville Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and helping his neighbors. In 1992, he completed his goal of visiting all 50 United States. In Mt. Carmel, he was a member of Belmont Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife Anna Ruth Thrasher Mowell and eleven brothers and sisters, including his twin brother, Earl.

He is survived by wife Mary Trent; son Gary Mowell; and son and daughter-in law, Ernest and Sandra Maddux Mowell; step-daughter Connie Trent; and step-daughter and son-in-law Carylon and Bo Alley.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Joe Easterly officiating. Following the graveside service, a gathering of friends and family, in remembrance of Clarence’s life, will be held at Weatherford Mortuary from 3 to 4 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at Belmont Baptist Church in Mt. Carmel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Robertsville Baptist Church or Belmont Baptist Church in Mt. Carmel.
