Zella Goodman Blalock, age 81, a resident of the Marlow Community in Anderson County, passed away Monday, July 30, at Methodist Medical Center.
Mrs. Blalock was born, July 8, 1931, in Anderson County, where she has lived most of her life.
Mrs. Blalock attended the Oak Ridge congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Zella was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and caring for her family, flower gardening, crocheting, and listening to country and bluegrass music.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lewis Blalock; by a son, Richard Blalock; by parents, Franklin and Sarah Frazier Goodman; by brothers, John Henry, Roy, Virgil and Ronnie Goodman; by sisters, Joyce Goodman, Elsie Gilliam and Bertha Kennedy; and by a granddaughter, Stephanie Verstynen.
Mrs. Blalock is survived by and will be sadly missed by a son, Charles “Chuck” Blalock and wife, Maria of Clinton; by daughters, Sheila Duncan of Knoxville, Sue Woodard and husband Jay of Wilson, N.C., and Bridgett Goins and husband Jim of Harriman; by grandchildren, Shannon Duncan, Ashley Duncan, Nicole Weinert, Brooke O’Boyle, Austin Meredith, Justin Bell, China Goins, Nathan Blalock, and Jessica Blalock; and by nine great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by brothers, Fred Goodman and wife,Shirley of Knoxville, and Frank Goodman of Clinton, and by several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of special friends.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Aug. 1, between 5 and 7 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with ministers E.W. Blair and Larry Gustafson officiating.
Burial and graveside services will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, at 10 a.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
