Paul Ryan, a top Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives, has endorsed Rep. Chuck Fleischmann in his re-election campaign, the congressman announced Tuesday.

Ryan is a Wisconsin Republican and chairman of the House Budget Committee who has been mentioned as a possible vice presidential candidate. He is perhaps most well-known for developing a budget plan supported by Republicans and bashed by Democrats.

“Over the last two years, I have worked side by side with Chuck Fleischmann to get our fiscal house in order, advancing solutions that would reduce our nation’s crushing burden of debt and get our economy growing,” Ryan said in a press release from Fleischmann’s office. “I have been proud to stand with Chuck as House Republicans have changed the culture in Washington from one that prioritizes spending taxpayer dollars, to one that prioritizes saving them.”

Fleischmann’s Republican opponents in this year’s primary election include Weston Wamp, Scottie Mayfield, and Ron Bhalla.
