Former Lake City mayor ‘Buck’ Wilson dies at 83

Former Lake City Mayor Virgil E. “Buck” Wilson died Sunday at the North Knoxville Medical Center in Powell. He was 83.

Wilson was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War and later served two terms as Lake City’s mayor, according to WYSH Radio in Clinton.

Wilson also served on the City Council and the Planning Commission, and he owned and operated the Hillbilly Market for 15 years.

His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hatmaker Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow. Wilson will be laid to rest Thursday morning with full military honors at the Campbell Memorial Gardens.
