Pastor Clyde Childs, age 76, a resident of Clinton and former resident of Coalfield, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, June 25, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

Mr. Childs was born February 3, 1936, in the Batley Community in Anderson County. He is a lifelong resident of this area.

Pastor Childs was a faithful Christian. He had been serving as the assistant pastor and a deacon of Victory Baptist Church in the Stephens Community in Morgan County.

He retired in 1987, following 38 years of employment at the X-10, K-25, and Y-12 plants in Oak Ridge.

Pastor Childs was preceded in death by his parents, Reece Childs and Nellie Moore Childs; by his former wife, Carella Dean Childs; by a granddaughter, Deanna Childs; by a sister, Edith Haney; and by brothers, Bob, Hubert, Mack, Fred, and Lawrence Childs.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Childs of Clinton; daughters Norma Andrews and husband Clifford of Clinton, Teresa Childs Jones of Kingston, and Tammie Price and husband Alvin of Knoxville; sons, David Clyde Childs and wife Vanessa of Clinton, and Ricky Lynn Childs and wife Kathy Lee of Oliver Springs; step-children, Michael Scott Bowling and Sandra Reynolds; grandchildren, Brenda Church, Malinda Andrews, Leighann Childs, John Paul Jones, Adam David Childs, Brittany Rene Defoe, Brandon Washington, Corey Washington, Sylvia Childs, and Savannah Westmoreland; great-grandchildren, Keria Defoe, Matthew, Timmy and Cassie Church, Anthony, Hannah and Bradley Andrews, Hayley, Jacob and Deanna Poland, Addison Jones, Ray Lynn Childs, Scottie Childs, Ryan Matthew Cox, Dana Cox and Jana Adkins; a great-great-grandchild, Bailey Church; and step-grandchildren, James Lee, Adam Pointer, and Erin Bowling.

Pastor Childs is also survived by a sister, Lorene Davis of Clinton; by special friends, Pastor Ralph Wilson and wife Peggy, and Jay and Judy Lane; and by several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 28, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ralph Wilson officiating.

Burial and graveside services will be held Friday, June 29, at 10 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton.

The family expressed their gratitude to Terrance Meese, MD, for all the help during the illness of Mr. Childs.
