Donald Ray Hammitt, 72, of Oak Ridge, died on June 17, 2012.
He was born in Corinth, Mississippi, on October 3, 1939, to parents J.E. and Mary Morgan and was a veteran with the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam.
Donald enjoyed music, especially playing the pedal steel guitar, and he raced cars as a younger man. He worked as an operating engineer with Martin Marietta Energy Systems, Y-12 Facility.
Preceding him in death were his parents, J.E. “Joe” and Mary Morgan, and his wife, Janis Hammitt, April of 1997.
His survivors include his daughter Donna Blanton and husband Kent of Old Hickory, Tennessee, and his granddaughters, Kaylee and Megan.
The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary at 8 p.m. tonight, with Rev. Keith Robinson officiating.
The graveside service will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Carl Bellon officiating.
