The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and local authorities are investigating the death of a woman who somehow exited a moving minivan on Sept. 12 just outside Lake City, according to WYSH Radio in Clinton.

Martha McGhee, 33, of Caryville, died Sept. 13, one day after she was found lying by the side of Cobb Hollow Road by witnesses who told Anderson County Sheriff’s deputies they had seen her arguing with a man in a minivan in the parking lot of a Lake City business, WYSH said.

Those witnesses reportedly followed the vehicle as it left the parking lot, and they told investigators it had gained speed as it reached Cobb Hollow Road, WYSH said. McGhee was found lying on the side of the road on a sharp curve, and a deputy’s report indicated that she “allegedly jumped” from the moving minivan, the radio station said.

The witnesses identified the minivan’s driver as 53-year-old James Richard Wylie, described as McGhee’s boyfriend, WYSH said. The radio station said no charges have been filed in the case as investigators continue to look into whether this was just an accident or if foul play was involved.
