Roane State’s Symposium on Powerful Teaching, set for Saturday, February 25, will feature Nancy Surrett Gregg, a member of King University’s School of Education.
The annual event, now nearly a decade old, will be held in the O’Brien Theatre on the college’s main campus in Harriman.
Online registration is available through February 17 at www.roanestate.edu/symposium.
Same-day registration and check-in begins at 8:15 a.m. February 25 in the lobby. All area K-12 educators are invited, and many typically attend the symposium.
The cost is $15 and covers breakfast, lunch and materials.
The keynote address by Gregg, an assistant professor of education at King University, will begin at 8:50 a.m. It’s titled “Leading Students to Learn,” and it will be followed by sessions in classrooms on the second floor of the O’Brien Building.
Gregg’s background includes stints as a first- and second-grade teacher, and she also served as a counselor/teacher in grades 5-8.
She’s worked with numerous U.S. Department of Education grant projects at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Those grants focused on supporting educational goals of low-income students, many of whom are the first family members to enter college.
Her specialties include multicultural education, educational partnerships, grant writing, and instructional methods.
