Applications for grants from the Consolidated Nuclear Security Y-12 Community Investment Fund are being accepted. The application process started November 30.

Nonprofit organizations in CNS Y-12’s 20-county service area with projects or programs that address community needs and economic development opportunities are encouraged to apply for one-year grants, a press release said. The 20-county service area includes, but is not limited to, Anderson, Roane, and Knox counties.

CNS has established the fund through the East Tennessee Foundation as part of its commitment to Oak Ridge and surrounding counties, the press release said.

“With the leadership of the employee-based CNS Y-12 Investment Advisory Committee, CNS employees will have the opportunity to grant support where the need is greatest and the resources ae best allocated,” the release said.

Funding preferences include:

  • Education: Enhance educational opportunities for East Tennesseans of all ages
  • Senior Citizens: Provide for the safety, health, and welfare of our region’s elderly population
  • Veterans: Provide services/programs for veterans, deployed soldiers, and/or their families
  • Youth: Provide services/programs that contribute to the health and welfare of our area’s youth

Available awards for the 2016 grant cycle will generally range from $500 to $10,000 in support of projects, programs or activities beginning in March 2016, the press release said.

Application Process:

Applications and grant information are currently online at www.easttennesseefoundation.org.  Eligible organizations must be tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations or other exempt entities, such as public schools and governments or municipalities. The deadline for grant application submissions is January 8, 2016.

Technical Assistance Workshop:

Interested organizations are encouraged to attend a technical assistance workshop, which will provide valuable insight into the grant-making process and the type of programs that CNS Y-12 seeks to fund, the press release said.  The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, December 9, between 9:30 and 11 a.m. at New Hope Center.
