A Rocky Top man who had been involved in two recent police pursuits in Anderson County, including one chase after an alleged carjacking from a family member on Friday, was arrested in Campbell County on Monday after a vehicle and foot chase involving a stolen pickup truck, authorities said.

Joshua Lee Styles, 25, of Ross Cemetery Road in Rocky Top, was arrested Monday, October 5, by Campbell County deputies after the pursuit of the stolen truck and on numerous warrants from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department, ACSD Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said.

He said Styles was originally wanted for a state probation violation.

The two pursuits with Anderson County deputies had occurred during the past week.

Lucas said the first was on Sunday, September 27, when Styles fled in a car from a deputy on New Clear Branch Road. He crashed into an embankment and ran on foot. A handgun was found near the wrecked car.  Styles was not located after a search of the area, Lucas said.

The second chase was on Friday, October 2, when Styles was a passenger in a car driven by a family member on Oliver Springs Highway.

“When deputies stopped the car, Styles forced the family member from the driver’s seat and drove away,” Lucas said. “Deputies chased the stolen vehicle but discontinued due to weather conditions and his reckless driving.”

The car was recovered on Sunday, October 5, at another family member’s home.

There were two state probation warrants at the time of the first pursuit, and additional warrants were filed in connection with this chase. Lucas said warrants for the carjacking and second pursuit are forthcoming. These warrants include several felonies.

Lucas said Styles was seen during the early morning hours of Monday, October 5, near Jacksboro in Campbell County where he fled on foot from Campbell County deputies. A pickup truck was reported stolen in this same area later Monday morning. Anderson and Campbell County deputies spent most of the day looking for Styles and the stolen truck in both counties.

The stolen truck was spotted by Campbell County deputies Monday afternoon near Jellico and, after another vehicle and foot chase, Styles was taken into custody, Lucas said. Campbell County deputies will be filing numerous charges related to the truck theft and pursuit. There were outstanding warrants in Campbell County as well, Lucas said.

He said Styles has a lengthy criminal record in Anderson and Campbell Counties.

“Our thanks to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance throughout the day and the capture of a dangerous, wanted felon,” Lucas said.
