The Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church is celebrating the opening of their new church with a week of music and an annual craft fair.
The new church is at 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike, on the north side of the Joe L. Evins Federal Building.
The week of music includes a performance by the Y’uns on Friday, October 17. Also beginning on October 17 and continuing on Saturday, October 18, the ORUUC will have its annual craft fair, a press release said.
The music events started Saturday, October 11, and end Sunday, October 19. The community is invited to attend, and all music events are free, the press release said.
Local artist Eric Bishop started the week off performing Flamenco to Dylan on Saturday, October 11. Liz and Tim also performed. The duo is known for their tight harmony vocals and unique arrangements of Americana, folk, and Appalachian music, the release said.
On Tuesday, October 14, native American flute artist Carol Bodeau will perform starting at 7 p.m. At 8 p.m., ORUUC’s acoustic musicians take over for an Acoustic Coffeehouse.
On Thursday, October 16, hammer dulcimer artist Allen McBride will appear starting at 7 p.m. The Knoxville Gay Mens’ Chorus will perform at 8 p.m., the release said.
On Friday, October 17, attendees can browse and shop at the annual craft fair from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Music will begin at 7 p.m. with the Kid’s Show that will feature ORUUC kids playing solo pieces on their instruments of study (trombone, violin, piano, etc.)
Best described as a goodtime acoustic band blending jug band music with elements of folk, swing, country, blues, and original material, the Y’uns will perform starting at 8 pm.
