The American Red Cross in Oak Ridge will recognize individuals who exemplify courage, kindness, and unselfish character at its 15th Annual Heroes Luncheon at noon Tuesday at the DoubleTree Hotel.
The Red Cross will honor local heroes from nominations submitted by the community. Those honored will include military, police, fire, first responders, and other local heroes, a press release said.
Nominees are people who have responded to a crisis to provide comfort or leadership and/or have provided an example to others in the community about dedication to the community in a time of need. Categories include Professional Rescuer/Responder (police, EMT, firefighter), Youth Good Samaritan (21 and younger), and Community Service.
Since 2000, the annual event has recognized hundreds of Anderson County heroes.

“At the Red Cross we work with heroes every day. Whether it’s a firefighter, a member of the military, or a student in one of our CPR classes, we have the honor of knowing the people we serve with are saving lives on a daily basis,” said American Red Cross Community Development Manager Will Cramer. “This event isn’t about the Red Cross; it’s about thanking those who protect people every day in Anderson County.”
The keynote speaker will be the co-chairman of the Medal of Honor Convention Joe Thompson. Thompson is responsible for helping to bring the highly anticipated Medal of Honor convention to Knoxville. The group honors the recipients of the prestigious Congressional Medal of Honor and all those who have served in our Armed Forces.
