Oak Ridge City Manager Mark Watson will give an update on the state of the city during Lunch with the League on Tuesday.

The meeting starts at noon in the Social Hall of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, located at 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike.

Watson became Oak Ridge city manager in August 2010. He is the chief administrative officer of the city, and his responsibilities include planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the operations of the municipal government in order to implement Oak Ridge City Council policies in an effective and economic manner, a press release said.

Oak Ridge is governed by a modified city manager-council form of government with the City Council appointing the city manager.

“The year 2013 has been one of construction, changes, challenges, and controversy for the City of Oak Ridge,” the release said. “Mr. Watson will address these issues and others that the city is currently confronting.”

Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge, Lunch with the League is open to the public. There is no cost to attend, and reservations are not needed. Box lunches will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis for $8, or you may bring your own. Coffee and tea are provided.

The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan organization that encourages informed and active participation in government and works to increase understanding of public policy through unbiased studies of public issues. Membership is open to both men and women. For more information, visit lwvoakridge.org.

i just love these kind of meet and greets, how convenience that it’s held on a tuesday at 11:30 so that the real working class people who have to be on their jobs can’t come.. MR. WATSON why don’t you ever hold a Meeting at 6:30 in the evening where you can talk to the working people and get some real QUESTION THROWN at you…

6:30 p.m. is a little late for a Lunch with the League meeting.

The comment was directed at MR. WATSON, not the league of women voter, I think a lunch with the league is nice, BUT MR. WATSON needs to address the public some too..

But the league is public and most people get to eat lunch and are welcome to these events. If you want Mr Watson to speak to a group, why not invite him like the league did or attend their event?
