CONTACT Care Line is hosting a pancake breakfast at Lincoln’s Sports Grille from 8-10 a.m. July 13.

Tickets are $5 and may be purchased from any board member or at the door. All proceeds will benefit CONTACT’s crisis call lines, which serve a nine-county region, including Anderson, Blount, Grainger, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, Roane, Sevier, and Union counties.

CONTACT has been in operation in Oak Ridge since 1973 and is celebrating its 40th year of service to the community, a press release said.

Lincoln’s Sports Grille is at 119 S. Illinois Ave. in Oak Ridge.

The press release said a collaboration of ministers from the Oak Ridge Ministerial Association began to lay the groundwork for a CONTACT center in Oak Ridge in 1972.

Early in 1973, the first training classes were held. Some 120 people completed the training and on Nov. 3, 1973, CONTACT commissioned its first telephone volunteer to answer the CONTACT helpline for the very first time with “This is CONTACT, may I help you?”

In 2012, CONTACT’s trained crisis line specialists answered 9,840 calls, the press release said.

“CONTACT’s crisis line specialists love what they do and listen with empathy and positive regard,” the release said. The care line phone number is (865) 584-4424.

The release said CONTACT also provides another valuable community service called CONTACT Reassurance. This free service provides a daily call to elderly or disabled clients who live alone and need someone to check in with them and also offers medication reminders. If you’d like to know more about CONTACT Reassurance, call the office at (865) 312-7450.
