For the second year in a row, Oak Ridge has been named a Playful City and is proud to announce the return of the Kid City Circuit to the children’s area of the Secret City Festival. Playful City USA is a nationally recognized program honoring cities and towns that make play a priority and use innovative programs to get children active, playing, and healthy.

Because the Secret City Festival is focused on community unity and children’s and family activities are such a big part of the festival, organizers are excited about the return of this festival favorite.

Participants should go to the Playful City Registration Tent (in front of the water station in the children’s area) to register for “One Free Admission to the Municipal Outdoor Pool.” One redemption per day, per participant allowed. The registration tent will be open Friday, June 21, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 22, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Secret City Festival is presented by the City of Oak Ridge, the Oak Ridge Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Arts Council of Oak Ridge. The festival also features tours of the Manhattan Project sites, special events at the American Museum of Science and Energy, a children’s area, arts and crafts vendors, and a new “Salute to Soldiers” living history demonstration. Other activities include a BMX bike expedition, a Secret City “cruise-in” car show, and nationally known headline entertainment Friday and Saturday night. The concerts are family-friendly too, and children under 10 are free with paid adult admission.

Knoxville-native rock band The Dirty Guv’nahs will perform Friday, June 21, at 7 p.m. The concert also features Soul Candy and The Traffic Jam as the opening act.

Grammy Award-winning rock icon Rick Springfield will close out the festival by playing his biggest hits at 7 p.m., Saturday June 22. The concert will also feature American Idol contestant Casey Abrams. Springfield will entertain fans with crowd favorites such as “Jessie’s Girl,” “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” and many others.

Concert tickets are on sale for $20 each and may be purchased online at www.SecretCityFestival.com, in person at the Oak Ridge Civic Center, or by calling the ticket line at (865) 482-4432.
