A telephone service and suicide prevention hotline is having an annual Flea Market fundraiser on Saturday, and the organization is accepting donations through Thursday.

The CONTACT Care Line Flea Market is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge.

It’s a “well-known and well-loved springtime fundraising event featuring incredible deals on interesting merchandise,” a press release said.

The market will be on the lower level of the church, which is at 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike. An early look at the items will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and items can be purchased early at twice the price.

The press release said CONTACT accepts donations large and small.

“If you have big-ticket items, such as cars, boats, or good furniture (no water beds or sofa beds), please let us know as soon as possible so that we can advertise these great buys well before the flea market,” the press release said. “We are happy to sell your small appliances, lawn mowers and gardening equipment, tools, craft supplies, jewelry, collectibles, clothes and linens, dishes and cookware, books, toys and stuffed animals, and other items.”

Items can be delivered to the church on Thursday, March 21, from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. or on Friday, March 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CONTACT has storage space available for donated items, the release said. Call the business office at (865) 312-7450 for more information if you are unable to bring the items to the church at the above times.

CONTACT Care Line is a telephone listening and referral service and suicide prevention hotline. In 2012, volunteers answered 9,800 calls from people seeking an understanding ear or needing a referral to community services, the press release said. People who call the CONTACT number are of all ages and have a variety of needs and problems: mental illness, loneliness, loss of a loved one, physical violence, sexual abuse, homelessness, marriage problems, health issues, worries about their children, addiction, school, work, or economic pressures, and suicidal feelings. The Care Line number is (865) 584-4424.

CONTACT also offers a free reassurance program for people living alone, in frail health, or home bound, who may benefit from a daily check-in phone call, the press release said. The Reassurance Program supports independence, decreases isolation, and “improves the quality of life for seniors and the disabled.” Last year, volunteers made 9,000 reassurance calls.
