The COVID-19 case rate remains low in Anderson County. The county continues to report about one new case of COVID-19 per day.
The positivity rate, the percentage of patients who test positive for COVID-19 out of those tested each day, also remains below 5 percent, in line with World Health Organization guidelines.
Anderson County reported 37 new cases of COVID-19 in June, an average of a little more than one new case per day. There were three hospitalizations and three deaths, according to data published by the Tennessee Department of Health.
The average number of new cases has remained low so far in July as well. The county averaged 0.9 new cases per day in the past 14 days, the state health department said Monday. One death and no new hospitalizations were reported in the first 12 days of July.
The positivity rate was 2.3 percent during the past seven days, the Tennessee Department of Health said.
Anderson County has reported 8,826 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began March 20, 2020. There have been a total of 230 hospitalizations and 176 deaths. That’s a hospitalization rate of 2.6 percent and a fatality rate of 2 percent. More than 10 percent of Anderson County residents have had COVID-19.
COVID-19 first peaked in the county about a year ago, in July 2020. There was a much larger, deadlier peak between about October and February, with the largest number of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths in December and January. The number of new cases has declined since February.
Though cases have declined across the United States since the winter, public health officials continue to recommend mitigation measures and vaccinations as they track the delta variant of the virus and as the number of new cases rises nationally, especially among the unvaccinated. (See also here.)
