Roane State graduation set for May 3-4

Roane State Community College will hold commencement ceremonies on May 3-4.

The ceremonies, to be held in the gym on the Roane County campus in Harriman, will be equal in presentation.

Friday, May 3, 2019—2 p.m.

  • Associate of Applied Science: Health Sciences degrees including Dental Hygiene, Health Information Management, Health Sciences, Medical Informatics, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Opticianry, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, and Surgical Technology.
  • Health Science Certificates including Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, Healthcare Documentation Specialist, Massage Therapy, Medical Coding, Paramedic, Pharmacy Technician, and Polysomnography.

Friday, May 3, 2019—7 p.m.

  • Associate of Applied Science in Nursing
  • Associate of Applied Science degrees including Business, Computer Information Technology, Contemporary Management, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Environmental Health Technology, General Technology, Geographic Information Systems, Mechatronics, and Paralegal Studies.
  • Certificates including Computer Information Technology, Early Childhood Education, Geographic Information Systems, and Mechatronics.
  • Middle College Associate of Science Degrees.

Saturday, May 4, 2019—10 a.m.

  • Associate of Arts, Associate of Fine Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of Science in Teaching.

Please note that visitors are advised to arrive early, a press release said. When the gymnasium reaches capacity, due to safety requirements, additional visitors will be directed to overflow rooms where they can watch live broadcasts of the ceremonies. Overflow rooms will be located in the Dunbar Building.

David Bunch, chief administrative officer and president of Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville, will be the speaker for the Friday afternoon ceremony, the press release said.

Jim Davis

Jim Davis—a former Roane State women’s basketball coach whose decorated career included stops at Clemson University, the WNBA, and additional colleges—will be the speaker for the Friday evening ceremony.

Andy Landers, a former Roane State women’s basketball coach who became one of the sports all-time winningest coaches following a stellar career at the University of Georgia, will speak at the Saturday morning ceremony.

Davis, Landers, and Roane State’s 1984 national champion women’s basketball team will be inducted into the newly founded Roane State Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, May 3. The one-hour ceremony will begin at 3:15 p.m. in the Raider Room, located inside the Vann Student Center in the Dunbar Building, the press release said.

Graduation photographs will be available for purchase through GradImages. Graduates will have a photo taken on stage as they shake hands with Roane State President Chris Whaley and as they return to their seats. Soon after the ceremony, graduates can view and order photos at www.gradimages.com.
