An Oak Ridge woman was charged with attempted murder after she allegedly stabbed a man in his abdomen, tricep, and thigh on Utica Circle early Friday morning, according to Anderson County court records.

Stephanie Shinlever, 23, was initially charged with attempted criminal homicide and tampering with evidence on Friday. But the attempted criminal homicide charge was amended to attempted first-degree murder on Tuesday, according to affidavits filed in Anderson County General Sessions Court in Oak Ridge.

The Oak Ridge Police Department responded to a reported assault at a Utica Circle apartment at about 2:12 a.m. Friday. When they arrived, they were led to a unit where the victim, Skylar Patterson, was laying on a couch, bleeding profusely from his abdomen, the affidavits said.

“Patterson was yelling that a female named Stephanie stabbed him,” according to the affidavits, which were filed by Ryan Martini of the ORPD. “Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Patterson had not only been stabbed in the lower left side of his abdomen, but his left tricep, as well as his right thigh. I asked if Patterson knew the female, and he explained it was his ‘ex,’ further stating that the female who stabbed him was Stephanie Shinlever.”

Patterson reported that the knife used in the stabbing was a small pocket knife that had white tape around the handle, the affidavits said.

ORPD officers and Anderson County Sheriff’s Department deputies with a K9 officer were not able to find the knife. Officers went to Shinlever’s apartment, her mother’s apartment, and her brother’s apartment, but they did not find Shinlever, Martini said.

She was finally located walking down the sidewalk of the Mackenzie Acres apartment complex, the affidavits said.

“After being mirandized, Shinlever stated that she blacked out and does not recall any of the event,” the affidavits said. “She further stated that she got rid of the knife after leaving the residence.”

Shinlever remained jailed in the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton on Tuesday night. Her bond has been set at $125,000. She had an initial court appearance scheduled for Tuesday, November 26, in Anderson County General Sessions Court in Oak Ridge.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
