The Roane State Community College Education Department will host a pair of open houses April 24 and April 26 for those interested in pursuing careers in K-12 education.
Current students, incoming freshmen, and members of the community are welcome, said Stacie Bradshaw, associate professor of education.
One event will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, in Room 336 of the Goff Building on the Oak Ridge campus, 701 Briarcliff Avenue.
The second open house will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, in Room O-224 of the O’Brien Humanities Building on the Roane County Campus, 276 Patton Lane, Harriman.
“We really encourage students who are thinking about becoming a teacher to attend these open houses. Our hope is that it will give them information about the various career pathways that are available in K-12 education,” Bradshaw said.
Attendees will be able to meet with faculty members, tour classrooms, and learn about the K-12 teaching programs at Roane State. Bradshaw said representatives from Tennessee Technological University, University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and King University will be available to meet with students about their transfer options into their College of Education programs once they graduate from Roane State.
Topics will include information about careers in elementary and second education, careers in special education, and Roane State’s 2+2 program. In that program, students attain an associate of science in teaching at Roane State. They then seamlessly transfer into the TTU’s College of Education while staying on a Roane State campus and earning a bachelor’s degree, a press release said.
