JOHNSON CITY—The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats opened up a wide lead in the second half to beat the Cleveland Lady Blue Raiders 69-35 in the Champion Chevrolet Shootout in Johnson City on Friday.

Oak Ridge (9-1, 5-0 District 3-AAA) was led by sophomore Jada Guinn with 21 points. Junior Desiree Bates had 14 points, and junior Jaymi Golden had eight.

The score was closer earlier in the game, with Oak Ridge ahead by two, 9-7, after the first quarter. The halftime score was 25-17.

But the Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Blue Raiders (6-6, 2-2 District 5-AAA) 44-17 in the second half.

Oak Ridge plays again in the Champion Chevrolet Shootout at 2:30 p.m. today (Saturday, December 17), when they play Science Hill (11-1, 1-1 District 1-AAA). Oak Ridge beat Science Hill 49-32 one year ago in the Rick McGill Toyota Classic at Wildcat Arena. Oak Ridge junior Mykia Dowdell led the Lady Wildcats with 18 points during that win.

Science Hill beat Fulton (6-2, 3-1 District 3-AA) 46-34 in another game at the Champion Chevrolet Shootout on Friday.

The Oak Ridge boys also played Cleveland on Friday. Both boys’ teams were undefeated coming into Friday’s game, and Oak Ridge remained undefeated afterward, beating Cleveland 76-56.

Here are a few more pictures by Robert Kell from the Friday night basketball game between Oak Ridge and Cleveland in Johnson City. The game was played at Science Hill High School.
