A juvenile died after a dirt bike crash in Anderson County on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The crash on private property was reported at about 3 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Hickory Valley Road in Heiskell, according to a preliminary crash report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The 17-year-old was driving the off-road Kawasaki motorcycle in a back yard but was not wearing a helmet, the THP said. The juvenile lost control in pine needles, struck a tree head-on, and was thrown from the bike, the report said.

Authorities said the juvenile, who is from Knoxville, was flown by Lifestar medical helicopter to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

The THP did not identify the driver in its report but said more information could be released after the crash investigation is complete and approved.

Besides the THP, other agencies that responded to the fatal crash were Anderson County Sheriff’s Department, Anderson County EMS, Andersonville Volunteer Fire Department, and Anderson County Rescue Squad.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
