A mail carrier was shaken up but not injured when a large tree fell on her delivery truck in west Oak Ridge on Friday morning, officials said.
The mail carrier was in her vehicle delivering mail on Mohawk Road when the tree fell on it at about 10:10 a.m. Friday, said David Walton, spokesman for the Tennessee district of the United States Postal Service.
The carrier was able to get out of the vehicle, but the tree had to be cut before the truck could be moved, Walton said.
The delivery vehicle was towed back to the Post Office, where the mail was unloaded onto another vehicle. Another carrier then finished the route.
“The mail is being delivered,” Walton said.
He said he can’t identify the mail carrier who was in the vehicle when the tree fell on it, but officials are glad that no one was injured.
An armada of utility trucks responded to help remove and clean up the tree and repair utility lines, including workers from the City of Oak Ridge, Comcast, and AT&T. Some utility lines were still down on the ground late Friday morning.
Mohawk Road is off Montana Avenue, north of Oak Ridge Turnpike.
More information will be added as it becomes available.

Glad she wasn’t injured, but I can imagine shaken, shocked, and thankful. I hope this wasn’t our favorite mail carrier, Toni.

I didn’t see exactly how the tree landed on the delivery vehicle, but my first thought was: That’s one tough mail truck! And I was very glad to hear the driver was okay! I’ve had relatives injured and killed in logging accidents, so I know falling trees can be very dangerous.
