A Powell man was arrested after the home invasion robbery reported in Claxton on Saturday morning, authorities said.

Michael John Cathcart, 33, of Clinton Highway in Powell, has been charged with three counts of aggravated robbery, three counts of aggravated assault, and one count of theft, Anderson County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said Sunday afternoon.

The robbery was reported on Duke Street in Ben’s Mobile Home Park off Edgemoor Road on Saturday morning, when a man said he was assaulted and robbed at gunpoint of his prescription narcotics by two other men.

The victim received a minor head injury and was taken to the hospital by Anderson County EMS, Lucas said. There were two other people in the home with the victim at the time of the robbery, Lucas said.

Cathcart was arrested by Anderson County Sheriff’s Department investigators. He was one of the two people located by Knox County deputies on Clinton Highway on Saturday, Lucas said.

“The woman with him was questioned but released without being charged at this time,” Lucas said.

Cathcart remains in the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton without bond pending arraignment.

The suspects’ vehicle description was broadcast to surrounding law enforcement agencies after the robbery was reported on Saturday, and it was located a short time later by Knox County deputies on Clinton Highway.

“Our thanks to Knox County Sheriff’s Office for their quick work in locating the suspect vehicle,” Lucas said. “We are not releasing any additional information at this time as we investigate the circumstances of the robbery.”

Lucas said investigators are still working on the case, and a second arrest “should be forthcoming.”

More information will be added as it becomes available.
