The Oak Ridge Wildcats boys and girls basketball teams opened the regular season with wins over Grace Christian on Tuesday.

The boys won 87-67, and the girls won 39-27. It was the first game for new coach Paige Green, who replaced former girls coach David Scott in June. Paige Green is married to Aaron Green, the boys basketball coach.

The Oak Ridge teams play at home again tonight (Thursday, November 19) against the Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK). The girls game starts at 6 p.m., and the boys game begins at 7:30.

Twelve Wildcats scored on Tuesday, and four were in double digits. Senior forward Javien Johnson led Oak Ridge with 18 points. Johnson also had 11 rebounds.

Junior Tajion Jones scored 13 for Oak Ridge, junior Tyshawn Young had 12 points and six rebounds, and junior E.J. Bush scored 11. Bush also had a few blocks.

Grace also had four players in double digits. Forward Connor Arnold, a 6-foot-7 junior, scored 21, freshman C.J. Gettlefinger had 15, forward Grant Ledford had 13, and senior Zack Walker scored 12.

The Lady Wildcats were led by freshman point guard Jada Guinn, who scored 11 and had a lot of deflections. Sophomore Mykia Dowdell and senior Caelyn Thompson each had 10.

The girls team lost no seniors last year, and the boys team lost only one, Ted Mitchell. The girls team now has two seniors, three juniors, eight sophomores, and two freshman.

Starting for the Wildcats on Tuesday were Bush and Jones, both 6’4″ guards; senior Geevantay Gee, a 5’11” point guard; Johnson, a 6’5″ forward, and Young, a 6’4″ forward.

Junior Tee Higgins, who was injured during the Friday night football playoff game at Ooltewah, did not play. Neither did senior Darel Middleton.

Starting for the Lady Wildcats were Guinn, Dowdell, junior Courtney Ellison, sophomore Emily Brewer, and sophomore Jaymi Golden.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
