Jefferson Soda Fountain

Jefferson Soda Fountain, located at 22 N. Jefferson Circle, has been serving local residents since 1944.  The restaurant continues to delight customers with “not fast food, but good food fast,” serving breakfast from 7:30 – 11:00 and lunch from 11:00 – 3:00. (Submitted photo)

Whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner (or all three!), dining out at seven local restaurants on Monday, October 12, is an easy and tasty way to help the needy in our communities. The second Monday of each month is designated as Dine and Donate Monday, during which local citizens are encouraged to eat out at participating restaurants. The restaurants, in turn, provide a portion of their sales to support Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties, or ADFAC.

On Monday, October 12, the following restaurants are participating in Dine and Donate:

  • Hoskins in Clinton
  • Jefferson Soda Fountain in Oak Ridge
  • Mediterranean Delight in Oak Ridge
  • Papa Murphy’s in Oak Ridge
  • Razzleberry’s in Oak Ridge
  • Riverview Grill in Oak Ridge
  • The Soup Kitchen in Oak Ridge

Several businesses sponsored Dine and Donate in 2014-15: Leidos, UT-Battelle, ORNL Federal Credit Union, Oak Ridge Today, Enrichment Federal Credit Union, The Erb Agency, J&M’s Butcher Shop and Mortgage Investors Group all provided cash or in-kind sponsorships to support the event.

“We are so grateful for the compassion and continuing participation of our restaurants, sponsors, and Dine and Donate diners,” said Cande Seay, ADFAC Board Member and event chair. “Hundreds of our less fortunate neighbors have already received assistance because of Dine and Donate contributions.”

ADFAC, an independent nonprofit agency established in 1987, exists to serve the basic needs of primarily low-income residents in Anderson and surrounding Appalachian counties. ADFAC’s goal is to help families become stable and self-sufficient through a variety of direct assistance services provided by our Social Services and Affordable Housing programs. ADFAC answers more than 6,000 requests for assistance each year.

ADFAC is currently seeking restaurants and sponsors for 2016.  If you or your business is interested in participating, please contact Jamie LaRose at adfacjamie@bellsouth.net or (865) 425-0256, extension 7.
