The Oak Ridge Police Department has identified a person of interest in the shooting on Wakefield Road and crash on North Illinois Avenue on Monday, and they consider the suspect to be armed and dangerous, authorities said.

The person of interest has been described as Larry Dewayne Williams, a black male, 28 years old, and 6’1″ and 165 pounds, the City of Oak Ridge said in a press release.

“Extreme caution should be used if he is observed,” the press release said.

Meanwhile, the Oak Ridge Police Department is taking steps to prevent further shootings on Wakefield Road. There were three in 48 hours, and one arrest has already been made.

“We’re working actively with other agenices to suppress vehicle and pedestrian traffic in areas which cause us concern,” Oak Ridge Police Chief Jim Akagi said Tuesday.

The shooting was reported at about 8:28 p.m. Monday, September 21. Oak Ridge police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Wakefield Road, where it was reported that shots were fired at a residence. Witnesses said a silver or gray Acura or Infiniti briefly stopped or slowed in the street, and the occupant fired multiple shots toward a home on Wakefield Road, the press release said.

At roughly 10:20 p.m., patrol officers attempted to stop a silver Infiniti matching the description of the suspect vehicle near the area of West Outer Drive and Washburn Circle. The vehicle refused to yield and fled, police said, causing an accident with two other vehicles at the intersection of West Outer Drive and North Illinois Avenue.

The driver of the silver Infiniti fled on foot from the vehicle behind the houses on the north side of the road. Nobody reported injuries at the crash scene, and ORPD officers along with Oak Ridge Fire Department and Anderson County Sheriff’s Department responded to the immediate area.

An ACSD K9 unit was deployed, which tracked the driver’s movements to an unoccupied home nearby, the press release said. Authorities said officers subsequently obtained and executed a search warrant for the residence, recovering additional evidence related to this incident.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact ORPD Detective Billy Weaver at (865) 425-3502 or (865) 425-4399, or they can TEXT-A-TIP by texting “TIP ORPD” followed by your message to 888777.

The ORPD said this investigation remains ongoing, and no further information will be released at this time.

More information will be added as it becomes available.

Car Crash at Hilltop and West Outer Drive

Police say the driver of this silver Infiniti fled on foot after a three-car crash at North Illinois Avenue and West Outer Drive on Monday night, just a few hours after a shooting was reported a short distance away on Wakefield Road, the third shooting there in 48 hours. Police have since described the driver as a person of interest in the Monday night shooting and crash. Pictured above at center are ORPD officers James Elkins and Garrett Robbins. Clearly the message, “Black lives matter” hasn’t resonated with some black lives in our local populace.

When a person is so cowardly they can only drive-by and shoot into a home, hoping the bullets hit their intended target, but don’t stick around long enough to find out, they don’t think ANYONE’s life matters.

I have news for them and their cohorts: Keep your issues with one another out of residential neighborhoods. Just because YOU don’t care about someone, or just because somebody did you wrong does NOT give you the right to go shooting up a neighborhood. You aren’t above the law and you will be caught.

Don’t worry about spending too much time in jail, odds are, you won’t. You’ll roll over on someone that’s up higher than you on the food chain and the system will let you go. We all know there is NO HONOR among criminals. And you’ll be free again be continue being a leech on society. Congratulations, you’re worthless POS, you’ve met your goal. From Tracy Stout
