There is no sure way to know if you’re going to get lung cancer, but certain risk factors can make you more likely to get lung cancer than another person. Smoking causes 80 percent of lung cancer deaths; however, other factors can increase your risk and even non-smokers can get the disease.
Learn more about lung cancer during Methodist Medical Center’s Health Night on the Town lecture on Tuesday, August 25, at 7 p.m. in the Ridge Conference Room of the hospital, which is at 990 Oak Ridge Turnpike.
Carlo Martinez, MD, a cardiothoracic surgeon on the medical staff of Methodist, will present “Lung Cancer: Risk Factors and Prevention.”
Dr. Martinez received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed a general surgery residency, a general surgery research fellowship, and a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Martinez is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He is in practice with East Tennessee Cardiovascular Surgery Group.
Health Night on the Town is an ongoing medical lecture series presented by physicians and other healthcare professionals. It is free and open to the public. Programs are held the last Tuesday of each month except June, July, November and December.
