Divas for a Cure 2015

Submitted

Calling all divas! Get together your girlfriends, your daughters, your mothers, and grandmothers, and come out for a day of pampering!

We have all been touched by cancer in some way. Some have fought the battle personally, and others have watched loved ones and friends go through the fight.

The American Cancer Society is making great strides in finding a cure for this devastating disease. They have come a long way, but still have much to do. This is where you come in. We would like to invite you to our first event called Divas for a Cure. The event will support the Relay for Life of Oak Ridge, and it is presented by team Got Hope.

We are so excited about this event! We have invited “pampering professionals” from around the area to come and provide services. The Paul Mitchell School will be coming to do hair styles, eye makeup, and nails. Young Living Oils will demonstrate how essential oils can provide natural relief for sleeplessness and pain. Mary Kay will have their wonderful satin hands and will also provide facials. Arbonne will have relaxing foot soaks and facials. Jamberry Nails will be there to let you try their unique line of ready-to-apply nail polish and Merle Norman will show you how to apply lip liner and lip color for that oh-so-sensual mouth! We are still working with a few other vendors and hope to have them on board soon.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Civic Center gymnasium. There will be a survivor wall and a remembrance wall where you can put up pictures of yourself or loved ones or just write notes. These walls will be taken to the actual Relay for Life event that will be held on Saturday, May 16, at the Oak Ridge High School track. If you want to write a note about your loved one but don’t have a picture, you are welcome to bring it to the Relay, and we will add it to the wall. We want to celebrate all survivors and remember those loved ones who fought and lost their battle to this devastating disease.

We will begin our day with an introduction and a short history and description of what the Relay for Life is all about and how it benefits the American Cancer Society. There will be a light luncheon provided by McAlister’s Deli and Caroline Thomas complete with sweet and unsweet tea and different types of “spa” water. During the luncheon, there will be a fashion show featuring local models that many of you will recognize from our community. Fashions are being generously provided by Belk Department Store. There will be a silent auction and a “purse pull,” where you can buy a chance to win a purse valued between $20-$200. The second half of the event will be a time for pampering and relaxation. The pampering professionals mentioned above will be stationed around the gym. You can choose as many services as you like for just $2-$5 each. These professionals are donating their time, and all money raised will go directly to the Relay for Life of Oak Ridge. Throughout the day, we will be giving away door prizes with an extra special one right as we wrap up.

Tickets to the event are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Ticket price includes admittance to the event, lunch, fashion show, and a “Diva” goodie bag. There will also be a photo booth with a wonderful backdrop and lots of props for you and your friends. You can have individual or group pictures made and be as serious or silly as you like. Each group will receive up to five different shots, which will be emailed directly to you. There is no extra cost for the photo booth. Pampering services, silent auction, and purse pull can be purchased the day of. Cash, checks, and credit cards will be accepted.

Our team is very excited about the event and hope that all of you will come out and support this great cause. If you would like to purchase tickets in advance, you may contact Lynda Vinyard at (865) 556-1355, Margo Davis at (865) 803-8662, or Kim Monroe at (865) 438-5334.

We hope to see everyone at the Diva Day. Together we can make a difference!
