Two 12-0 football teams will play tonight at Blankenship Field for the first time in school history.

The Class 5A quarterfinal game between Oak Ridge and Rhea County starts at 7 p.m.

Wildcats coaches are asking fans to help fill up Jack Armstrong Stadium for the historic game between two undefeated teams.

Oak Ridge beat Cleveland last week 10-6 in a close second-round game capped by a nerve-wracking goal-line defensive stand for the Wildcats with about 30 seconds left in the game.

The Golden Eagles beat Ooltewah 47-14 in another second-round game last week.

The winner of tonight’s game will advance to the semifinals on November 28 and take on the winner of South-Doyle and Knoxville West.

If Oak Ridge wins tonight, it would go 13-0 for only the third time in school history and for the first time since 1994.

Tailgating starts at 4:30 p.m. tonight, and the Walk of Champions is at 5:30.

I hate to spoil your fun, but OR and Rhea County have played each other before on Blankenship. They used to have to play each other during the regular seasons back in the mid 1990’s when the TSSAA went to a regional season instead of the district one that it went back to from the 1980’s. In the 1990’s, both OR and Rhea County were in Region 2 5A, and used to have to play each other during the regular season. That was also when the TSSAA also had OR in with Soddy Daisy and Bradley Central also. I remember many road trips down US Hwy 27 back then.
