A Legal Aid attorney will discuss new laws affecting long-term health care during Lunch with the League on Tuesday.

Mary Lyn Goodman, an attorney with Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, will be the guest speaker. The talk begins at noon in the Social Hall of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church at 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike.

Goodman has been a legal advocate for the elderly, the abused, and low-income citizens since joining the Legal Aid Society after graduating from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1997, a press release said. She directs the Oak Ridge office’s Pro Bono program and devotes a significant portion of her practice to assisting and advising families on legal issues related to caregiving.

In addition to her work with Legal Aid, Goodman currently serves as president of the board of the Tennessee Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and as a policy advocate on their behalf. She chairs the East Tennessee Regional Health Councils and the Anderson County Elder Abuse Review Board. She is past president of the Anderson County Bar Association, a member of the Tennessee Association’s Continuing Legal Education Committee, and a 2008 graduate of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Leadership Law Program outstanding young lawyers. She resides in Knoxville.

Lunch with the League is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge, and it is open to the public. There is no cost to attend, and reservations are not needed. Box lunches will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis for $8, or you may bring your own. Coffee and tea are provided.
