Jason Schmieg has been hired as girls head soccer coach at Oak Ridge High School, according to Athletic Director Mike Mullins.
Schmieg replaces Tom Gorman, who compiled a three-year record of 43-10-8, which includes a 2012 District Championship with the Lady Wildcats. Coach Gorman resigned in early June to become the fitness manager for the Rush in Oak Ridge.
Most recently, Schmieg served as head coach of a competitive travel soccer team and assistant boys and girls soccer coach at Millbrook High School in Raleigh, N.C.
“Coach Schmieg is a newcomer to East Tennessee, “ Mullins said in a news release. “He brings with him an excellent tactical awareness of the game, but the most important trait he possesses is his ability to build personal relationships. The Lady Soccer Cats have a good nucleus returning this season, and needed someone who could pull that talent together to create the chemistry needed to make a championship program. I believe Coach Schmieg is the coach to do that.â€
Schmieg earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management and business management from Barton College in Wilson, N.C., and he has a master’s degree in kinesiology with a concentration in sports psychology and motor behavior from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
