Information from WYSH Radio

July 4 plans have been announced for Clinton, Norris, and the Museum of Appalachia.

Clinton—Clinton’s annual Independence Day fireworks show will be held at Lakefront Park again this year. Festivities get under way at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 4, with a host of activities for kids, live music, and more. Backyard Bouncers will have a 65-foot, three-lane “megawaterslide,” a bounce house, a two-lane slip and slide, a two-lane Bungee challenge, and an All-Stars basketball challenge.

Snow cones will be sold, and the Clinton Optimist Club will be selling hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, and more at the Lakefront concession stand. There will be additional food vendors set up in the lower Lakefront parking lot.

A corn-hole tournament will begin at 7 and continue through the night with sign-ups at 6 p.m. Live music will be provided by the named Hearse from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on the men’s softball field, and there will be an antique car show on the men’s field as well.

The fireworks show will begin at 10 p.m.

Museum of Appalachia—July 4 will be celebrated in an unusual, dramatic, and traditional fashion at the Museum of Appalachia with historic anvil shoots.

In addition, there will be demonstrations of mountain arts and crafts. Bluegrass, old time and folk music will be played and sung on the porches of the cabins and in the old log church, and hymn singing and church services will be conducted. The demonstrations and music can be found throughout the 65-acre farm/village complex.

For more information, contact the Museum of Appalachia at (865) 494-7680 or visit www.museumofappalachia.org.

Norris—The Norris Lions Club brings you the 45th Annual Norris Day celebration in downtown Norris. Running enthusiasts can begin the day with the Firecracker Road Run sponsored by the Norris Recreation Commission.

Later, the children’s Dog Show will be held on the Norris Commons, followed by the one-mile Fun Run. No one will want to miss the children’s Wheel Race, the Bicycle Parade, the Water Balloon Toss, or the Water-Ball Battles. There will be sack races and duck races, too.

One of the highlights of Norris Day is the wonderful barbecue dinner—barbecue pork and chicken with all the sides served by the Norris Lions Club in the Norris Middle School cafeteria from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tickets for the dinners will be on sale in front of the Norris Post Office, at Hensley’s, and at Archers before July 4 as well as in the cafeteria that day. Proceeds from the ticket sales will fund many of the community projects supported by the Norris Lions Club each year.

Stop by the booths on the Norris Commons and on the grounds of the Norris Middle School, where many of our community organizations will have displays.

Norris Day will conclude with a fireworks display on the Norris Commons, an event funded by the Norris Fire Department, the Norris Recreation Commission, the Norris Lions Club, and contributions from local residents.
