Rutherford B. Simpson

Rutherford B. Simpson, age 81, of Clinton, passed away Monday, Feb. 25, at Methodist Medical Center.

He was born April 4, 1931, in Hazard, Ky., the son of William and Rowena Roberts Simpson.

Mr. Simpson was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a CPA and owner of Simpson Accounting in Oak Ridge. He was also a resident of Pensacola, Fla., where he enjoyed his passion of deep-sea fishing.

He was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge #1684 and the Oak Ridge Rotary Club. He was also an avid sportsman and gun enthusiast and proud member of the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by son, William Brock Simpson of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter, Leslie Simpson Wells of Powell; grandchildren, Zachary Scott Wells of Powell and William R. Simpson of Pensacola, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Jamon and Ariyana; special nephew, Chip Simpson of Pensacola, Fla.; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Rev. Don Morris officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Volunteer State War Era Honor Guard.

The family asks that any memorials be made to the National Rifle Association Foundation, 11250 Waples Mill Rd., Fairfax, VA 22030 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
