The Oak Ridge Chapter of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks has donated $1,500 to three local charities, a press release said.

On Thursday, Jan. 24, members of the Elks Lodge annual charity golf tournament committee met with the directors of the Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge, and the Emory Valley Center, along with volunteer staff members at the Holiday Bureau, in order to present each of them with a $500 check, the release said.

During the past year, the Oak Ridge Elks Chapter has given more than $4,700 in monetary donations to local charities including the Volunteer State Honor Guard, Anderson County Allies for Substance Abuse Prevention, and the Roane County Anti-Drug Coalition.

The donations were made possible due to Elks National Foundation grants and the work of the Oak Ridge Elks Lodge charity golf tournament committee, the press release said.

“Elks have a passion for serving our community,” said Donna Forstrom, community investments coordinator for the lodge. “We, as Elks, do our best to help everyone from adults with intellectual disabilities to helping provide free medical care to families that are at or below two times below the federal poverty level while also assisting in the assurance that local families needs will not go unmet during the Christmas season. We also support programs to help our local veterans and we have an endless dedication to drug abuse prevention.”
